Four women are reported to have been attacked - all in the Clifton area - over the past five weeks.
Avon and Somerset police said the attacks happened in the Whiteladies Road and Alma Road area.
Police said the attacks happened during the evening and early hours of the morning.
In each case lone women have been approached by an unknown man who has then indecently assaulted them.
Police said they had stepped up patrols in the area and carried out enquiries into the incidents, but are keen to speak to any witnesses.
Detective Inspector Ed Heath said: "I appreciate incidents like this are worrying to local people, but I would reassure them that these incidents are being investigated and we are doing everything possible to find the offender involved.
"We would appeal to anyone who may have any information or have witnessed such offences to come forward. Some women may also have experienced similar assaults but not reported them and so we are also keen to speak with them."
The offender in each case has been a white man, aged in his 20s, 5ft 10ins tall and wearing dark clothing.
Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives on 0117 945 5562 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
Meanwhile, police have dropped their investigation into allegations of a woman being raped on a path between Bridge Valley Road and the Portway.
The woman alleged that she had been attacked on Thursday, November 6 at about 6am.
Dan Mountain, a police spokesman, said: “The rape allegation is no longer being investigated and it is not connected with any of the four offences which are being investigated.”
